About the Morrisville Police Department
The Morrisville Police Department is committed to maintaining safe and secure neighborhoods through the delivery of professional law enforcement services in partnership with our residents. The Morrisville Police Department is nationally accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, known as the gold standard in public safety credentialing. About the Role
The Police Officer classification includes officers in the classifications of Police Officer, Master Police Officer, and Senior Police Officer. Duties and tasks performed in this role may be similar to those in the noted classification but may be distinguished by the level of attainment in the departmental career ladder. Attainment of the rank within the career ladder is based on the requirements set forth by the Morrisville Police Department and is subject to evolve based on best practices and the Town’s unique needs. Assignment of unit and/or specific duties are not contingent upon attainment within the departmental career ladder and is at the sole discretion of the department and Chief.
What You’ll Do
Perform responsible law enforcement work in the areas of patrol, investigations, drugs and vice, school resource, traffic safety, K-9, professional standards, or other specialty units as created or assigned.
Some specific examples include (this is not an exhaustive list and is only for illustration purposes
Patrols assigned areas to detect and prevent crime; answers call(s) for service and assistance (examples may include domestic violence incidents, accidents, robbery calls, assaults, breaking and entering, etc.).
Checks the physical security of businesses, homes, cars, etc.; gets out of car and closely inspects buildings.
Establishes contact with residents for public relations.
Enforces traffic laws, including stationary observation, speed violations and review of suspicious vehicles.
Administers field sobriety tests to determine impairment.
Directs traffic as necessary.
Serves criminal summons, subpoenas, and warrants in assigned jurisdiction; makes arrests and transports suspects to the public safety center for processing.
Attends community meetings and makes presentations to churches, schools, civic organizations, and business leaders as requested.
Facilitates Neighborhood Watch programs.
Testifies in court on arrests made and assists the district attorney in preparing cases.
Performs and assists in community policing.
Responsibly maintains vehicles, firearms, and other equipment.
Adheres to, upholds, and promotes the Town of Morrisville’s mission, vision, and values.

The Must Haves (Minimum Qualifications)
A valid high school diploma or equivalent (General Education Diploma).
A valid driver’s license that is in good standing (subject to evaluation of the Town).
Currently hold North Carolina Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) Certification or Probationary Certification or possess the ability to obtain.

Demonstrated knowledge of police methods, practices, and procedures.
Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions and to prepare clear and comprehensive reports.
Ability to make reasonable and safety-minded decisions in the field.
Ability to effectively communicate with and service the public.
Ability to analyze situations and adapt to such situations quickly and safely.
Skilled use in provided equipment such as firearms and motor vehicles.
Demonstrated understanding and commitment to dedication, innovation, courtesy, and integrity.
