Housekeeping & Check Out Procedures

Housekeeping staff will go into the student rooms to clean daily, unless otherwise requested.

Housekeeping staff will clean bathrooms and replace towels and washcloths each day.

Please do not put signs of any kind on the walls in the residence hall.

Checkout Procedures

Used sheets and pillowcases should be removed and placed on the floor at the foot of the bed.

Blankets and bedspreads should be folded and placed on the bed.

Wet linens should be placed on the tile floor near the sink.

Keys shall be returned to the Residence Hall office counter.

Students are to check out by 8 AM on the last day of training.  Late checkouts must be approved in advance by the Facilities Manager.

WiFi Information

Internet access on campus is provided free of charge, subject to users’ consent to the North Carolina Department of Justice Internet Use Policy.

The Wi-Fi password can be obtained from the residence hall front desk or the Learning Resource Center desk.

Campus Map & Services

Blanchard Student Center

The Academy’s Student Center features a pool, ping-pong and Foosball tables, video games, television, vending machines, refrigerators, and microwaves. The Academy’s Blanchard Student Center hours of operation are 6 PM on Sunday until 5 PM on Friday.

Cafeteria

The cafeteria serves breakfast Monday – Friday, 6:45 AM – 8:15 AM; lunch, 11:30 AM – 1:15 PM; and dinner, Monday – Thursday, 4:30 PM – 6 PM.

Campus Security

The campus security office is located in the lobby area of Residence Hall C.

A security officer’s hours are as follows:

Sunday 12 PM – Monday 8 AM

Monday-Thursday 4 PM – 8 AM

Friday 12 PM – 8 PM

Hours vary on weekends and holidays. Contact 911 in case of emergencies.  Notify NCJA Security or NCJA Operations staff as soon as feasible.

Gym

The gymnasium’s hours of operation are 5 AM – 10 PM Monday through Friday. The gymnasium includes weight training and a basketball court. Please observe all rules posted in these facilities.

Learning Resource Center

The Learning Resource Center is open to students from 8 AM to 5 PM Monday – Friday.

Please see our staff for any help with reference materials, computer access, and book checkout.

Lost & Found

Lost & found is located in Residence Hall C. Found items will be held for 30 days. Please let us know as soon as possible if you left something in your room.

Rules & Regulations

All students must be constantly aware that their conduct, both at the Academy and in the community, reflects not only themselves but also the agency they work for, the Justice Academy, and the Department of Justice. Model conduct is particularly important in the residence halls, where the rights of others to an environment conducive to study and rest are paramount.

1. No Pets are allowed in residence hall rooms
   • Only agency-authorized, ADA accommodation-approved service animals are allowed in Residence Halls.  For all other Residence Hall users, medically authorized, ADA-approved service animals are allowed in the Residence Hall.  Service animal owners shall crate animals when not under their direct supervision and must adhere to NCJA quiet hours.
2. Items that emit smoke, vapor, or flame within the NCJA Residence Halls are prohibited, as these gases can trigger the NCJA fire alarm system or create unhealthy living conditions. This includes, but is not limited to, using candles, incense, and vaping products.
3. Quiet hours are enforced between 11 PM to 6 AM
4. Disruptive conduct is not acceptable at any time. Disruptive conduct shall include, but will not be limited to the following:
   • Loud and disorderly behavior
   • Intoxication or any use of illegal drugs
   • Malicious, reckless, or deliberate damage to the Academy or personal property
   • Failure to comply with requests from campus security or residence hall staff
   • Public display and consumption of alcoholic beverages in areas other than designated areas. Designated areas for display and consumption that are not open to the general public are:
     • • •  Residential areas, including Residence Hall rooms, lounges, courtyard, and breezeways. Alcohol outside residence hall rooms must be in a nondescript cup only. Alcohol consumption in all other areas is prohibited up to and including the cafeteria, gymnasium. driver training facility, and firearms training facility
   • Violation of North Carolina law.
   • No hazing or other dangerous behaviors.
   • Disrespect towards Academy staff
   • Any other conduct deemed disruptive by the Director or Academy staff.
5. Disruptive conduct may result in removal from campus and will be reported to the respective agency.

Weapons Policy

• • Commission-certified, sworn law enforcement officers and qualified retired law enforcement officers are allowed to possess and/or carry firearms while attending Academy courses and/or while residing in the Residence Halls as outlined in Facilities & Operations Management Policy #29 – Possession/Carry of Firearms on Campus.
    1. The Residence Hall user shall use the safes provided in each Residence Hall room to secure their firearm(s) and ammunition. Weapons and/or ammunition SHALL NOT be left unsecured or unattended at any time in the residence hall or other campus locations.
    2. The Residence Hall user shall secure their firearm(s) and ammunition in their vehicle if a safe is not available in the Residence Hall room.
    3. Long guns and Class III weapons SHALL NOT be stored in the Residence Hall rooms. These weapons may be stored in the Academy’s firearms vault upon request. Arrangements can be made with the respective Campus Facilities Manager to store these weapons on site.

Emergency & Safety

Fire Alarms

Fire alarm pull switches are located near the stairs at each end of each floor. In case of fire, pull the nearest alarm and exit the building in the safest manner possible, and report immediately to an Academy staff member away from the building for accountability

First Aid

First aid supplies are located throughout campus. All injuries and illnesses should be reported to a North Carolina Justice Academy staff member (instructor, Residence Hall staff, Security staff, etc.) immediately. Transportation to and from the hospital will be coordinated by the Residence Hall staff.
