Trent Woods Police

The Town of Trent Woods and Trent Woods Police Department are seeking qualified applicants for a full-time sworn police officer position.

Trent Woods is located in Craven County and sits on the banks of the beautiful Trent River.  We are bordered by the City of New Bern and are a primarily residential town with an elementary school, country club and golf course, two public parks, several churches, and a few commercial businesses.  We are just a forty-five minute drive from the coast and area beaches.  Our population is around 4,000 permanent residents and we do not have a transient seasonal population.

We pride ourselves on consistently being one of the safest towns in North Carolina and we were ranked number two safest town last year.  Our police department consist of six full-time sworn officers, one part-time sworn officer, and several reserve sworn officers.  We offer a competitive starting salary that is based on training, education, and experience.  Our career development program encourages and supports ongoing training and education to support career progression.  Specialized training is supported and encouraged.  Officers work a tradition rotating twelve hour shift (4 weeks of days, 4 weeks of nights) and offer a great benefits package.  The Town of Trent Woods provides health insurance, no match 401K contribution, sick and vacation leave, and take home car if residing within the town or the one mile extra territorial jurisdiction.

We are a professional and progressive, service oriented, full-time police department providing constant police coverage to our citizens and community.  Interaction with our citizens is essential and our officers must be able to engage in community policing with a strong emphasis on decision making.  Officers are encouraged to participate in community activities and integrate themselves with the town’s citizens.

Special requirements are as follows: Possession of an appropriate driver’s license valid in the State of North Carolina. Possession of Basic Law Enforcement certificate issued by the State of North Carolina. Must meet and maintain minimum training and experience qualifications for position as established by the Town and the State of North Carolina.

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school will be considered.
