ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FROM INDIVIDUALS WITH PROBATIONARY OR GENERAL CERTIFICATIONS AND THOSE CURRENTLY IN BLET. Under general supervision, performs law enforcement work to protect the lives, property and rights of citizens of Pitt County with emphasis on their assigned school within the Pitt County Schools system. Reports to a Sergeant. This position has pay grades of Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced/Master based on state certificate awards.  Must fill out the standard Deputy Sheriff job application paperwork and please note your interest in the SRO position.

Each Pitt County Sheriff’s Office School Resource Officer (SRO) is a specially trained deputy sheriff, assigned to a high school, middle school, or elementary school as a key member of the school’s safety team, providing necessary law enforcement services, while being a good role model, mentor, and facilitator. They may also be certified as a D.A.R.E. Officer/Instructor. Our SROs have several special benefits.

Candidates must hold a current law enforcement certification. Minimum salary is $51,448 (with an increase expected on 7/1/24) but may increase with experience-ASK. Pay increases offered for the state issued Intermediate and Advanced Certificates upon hire or once obtained post hire.
