The primary responsibility of Campus Safety and Police is to provide a safe and secure campus environment of over 650 Acres for approximately 9000 students, faculty, staff, and visitors to campus. Our department includes NC state-certified police officers (21), non-sworn community service officers (11), communication dispatchers (6), and administrative personnel (4). Our campus police and community service officers patrol campus and provide security 24 hours per day throughout the year. You will see our police officers in vehicles and on foot or bike.

Dispatcher Position Summary: Answer all incoming radio transmissions and phone calls in a professional manner. Communicate with officers in the field using radio and phone systems, as well as communicating with local County 911 center (CCOM) on 911 calls they receive regarding the jurisdiction of the campus. Make referrals and notifications in accordance with Department’s policies, procedures, and supervisory directives. Follow guidelines in an emergency. Document information in records management systems as appropriate. Operate alarm systems and provide services to numerous locations on campus. Respond appropriately to fire, trouble, panic, and other alarms. Provides information services for students, visitors, faculty, and staff. Monitor department and campus cameras for unusual or suspicious activity. Send and receive messages through campus emergency alert system and safety app to keep members of the community safe and informed during emergencies and/or requests for assistance. Work shifts involving days, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Elon University offers competitive pay and outstanding benefits: Dispatcher starting pay is approximately $44,800 with two-step increases to $48,000. Dispatchers with relevant experience over one year may be considered to start at step two. All overtime is fully paid out. Overtime may include but is not limited to many special events and Division 1 sports.
