The North Carolina Justice Academy Library operates as an integral part of the North Carolina Justice Academy and offers its facilities and services to a wide clientele. The Library facilitates and supports faculty research and curriculum development through a collection of over 20,000 books, reports, and documents and over 79 periodical subscriptions. The Library staff offers technical assistance to answer criminal justice information needs. It disseminates information and research materials to criminal justice practitioners throughout the State of North Carolina.

BORROWING PRIVILEGES:
Library collections are available to all law enforcement personnel throughout their professional careers. The library supports the research and professional development needs of officers and public service leaders, providing books, audio-visual materials, journals, and access to databases that represent current thoughts, trends, and innovations in criminal justice. Services are provided free of charge and materials are provided in-person, electronically and by mail. While some legal books, academy publications/notebooks, and reference items do not circulate, most materials can be checked out for one month with the option to renew. Interlibrary loan services are also available.
POLICY AND PROCEDURE MANUAL COLLECTION:
The Policy and Procedure Manual Collection is a special collection of the NCJA Library. The North Carolina Justice Academy is a special library that specializes in Criminal Justice Materials.
The clearinghouse of manuals were gathered from various police and sheriff’s departments across the state to assist police, sheriffs, deputies and police departments in developing policy manuals. Many departments are working on CALEA.
The librarian will copy a limited number of policies from the manuals for the above named groups. Officers may come to the library to use the materials.
The materials are restricted to criminal justice personnel. If you would like to know what is available, please contact the librarian.
