School Director/Qualified Assistant Orientation

Who Should Attend:

Criminal justice personnel who are designated as a school director or qualified assistant for Commission courses.

Course Goal:

To provide orientation information to criminal justice personnel who are newly designated as school directors or qualified assistants on their various responsibilities and functions according to North Carolina Administrative Code.

Course Objectives:

The student will be able to achieve the following objectives in accordance with information received during the instructional period:
  • Describe the composition of the Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission and relate the purpose of the Criminal Justice Standards Division.
  • Recognize the importance of proper administration of Commission courses and the numerous responsibilities of the school director and qualified assistant.
  • Discuss the various certifications instructors can have including the terms and conditions.
  • Describe the performance requirements, trainee attendance, and state comprehensive exam as it applies to the administration of BLET.
  • Discuss various Speed Measurement Instrument Program certifications and requirements.
  • Discuss the requirements of mandated in-service training and the files to maintain for an audit.


This course employs lecture and class discussion.

Course Requirements:

Attendance is required at all class sessions.
