Law Enforcement Sniper Course

Who Should Attend:

Individuals assigned the role of a precision marksman utilizing an optically assisted high-power rifle.

Course Goal:

To provide the information and skills necessary for a law enforcement officer assigned to the duties of sniper/ countersniper to effectively and efficiently fulfill those duties.

Course Objectives:

The student will be able to:
♦  Describe the proper method for cleaning the sniper rifle and scope.

♦  Describe three types of ballistics.

♦  Discuss the effects of temperature on ammunition.

♦  Estimate range using the Range Estimation Formula.

♦  List the four factors common to all shooting positions.

♦  Explain the purpose of the data book and log appropriate entries.

♦  Describe the role of both the sniper and observer.

♦  Safely and accurately fire and operate the police sniper rifle.

Methodologies:

This course employs lecture, discussion and practical exercises.

Course Requirements:

Attendance is required for all class and range sessions. Students will be required to pass a written comprehensive examination with a score of 70% and pass a single shot qualification course of fire.
Special Concerns
Students will bring comfortable and practical clothing for outside training and rain protection. Students will need a high power rifle with scope, 250 rounds of service ammunition, binoculars and cleaning equipment. A spotting scope and shooter’s mat should be brought if available.
