Position: Police Detective
 
Location: Reidsville Police Department
 
Salary: $34,864-$60,537
 
Duties: An employee in this class investigates crimes and complaints, apprehends suspects and criminals, and gathers and presents evidence and testimony in court. Employee must exercise considerable judgment and initiative in applying modern law enforcement principles and practices under which the department operates. Tact and firmness are required in frequent public contact situations. Duties are performed under the usual hazards of police work. Assignments are generally received from superior officers and usually consist of specific cases to be followed to conclusion and closed with prosecution. Work is evaluated by the Investigative Lieutenant responsible for investigations through observation of performance and through discussions and review of written reports.
 
Requirements: -General Law Enforcement Certification from the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education Training Standards Commission (an officer cannot be considered a probationary officer with the commission). -Investigative Experience -Graduation from high school or GED, supplemented by courses in police science; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. -Candidates will go through a selection process, which will consist of a structured interview. Intermediate Law Enforcement Certificate
