The purpose of this program is to prepare physical fitness instructors to implement health and exercise programs and obtain certification for administering physical fitness instruction in the North Carolina Basic Law Enforcement Training Course. Students will learn how to administer a physical fitness assessment as outlined by the Cooper Institute of Aerobics Research, prepare exercise prescriptions and design specialized fitness programs, advise students on basic nutrition, and effectively counsel and motivate other officers/students to continue in an exercise program utilizing overall wellness concepts. In addition, students will learn how to develop voluntary employee wellness programs and how to use mandatory fitness standards for applicants and incumbents through scientific validation processes.
