Child Abuse Related Interviewing: The Suspected Perpetrator

Who Should Attend:

Patrol officers, investigators and other persons responsible for interviewing those suspected of perpetrating child abuse and maltreatment.

Course Goals:

To provide the knowledge and skills necessary to successfully interview a person who is suspected of committing an act of child abuse or maltreatment.

Course Objectives:

At the conclusion of this training the student will be able to:

> Identify various methods to control the interview towards a productive outcome.
> Discuss child abuse contributing factors and how they impact the interview  process.
> Design an interview process around specific themes for utilization during the admission phase of the interview.
> Identify the connection between cause and admission.

Methodologies:

This course employs lecture/discussion and practical exercises.

Course Requirements:

Students registering for this course must have completed a 40 hour interview and interrogation class.  Attendance of 100% is required at all class sessions.  Students are required to participate in all practical exercises.  Students are expected to pass a final written exam with a minimum score of 70%. Class will begin at 8:00 a.m. unless otherwise directed by the instructor. 

Special Concerns:

This is a vendor course for which there is a $100 fee for attendance.  The instructor, Don Rabon will accept cash, credit card or a money order from students attending the course.  He does not accept purchase orders.  Students wishing to pay the fee in advance may send payment directly to:
