Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Certificate
This program is designed to recognize the achievement of law enforcement professionals who have dedicated themselves to making the highways safer for our citizens. Officers, upon completion of the program, will have mastered several important aspects of traffic enforcement and related topics, thus achieving a high level of professionalism for themselves as well as their department.
Must be a sworn member of a law enforcement agency and have at least two years of full-time law enforcement experience.
Must complete an application which will include their agency head’s approval to participate in the program as well as a letter of recommendation from their supervisor. The letter shall include verification that the officer has traffic enforcement and/or traffic investigation responsibilities.
500 hours (must include the core classes with the balance of hours coming from the electives). Additional classes can be added to the list and, if this occurs, notification will be sent to the program participants.
Any courses (core or electives) taken prior to the application date will be credited towards completion of the certificate program given that they were taken within five years of the application date. Final approval of credited courses and credited hours is at the discretion of the program coordinator.
Applicants must complete the program within five years of acceptance in the program.
Credit for classes must be given through the North Carolina Justice Academy, except for some state and nationally recognized courses such as:
Intoximeter, Model Intox EC/IR II
