Bloodstain Pattern Interpretation Familiarization

Who Should Attend:

lnvestigators and crime scene personnel tasked with conducting investigations where blood evidence is located and reconstructing the events surrounding the incident.

Course Goal:

To familiarize detectives, crime scene investigators, & law enforcement personnel on the value
of the bloodstains. Students participate in at least a dozen hands-on experiments to observe how blood behaves while in flight. Evidence is often overlooked or even disregarded at crime scenes where blood has been shed. (Accepted by the (IAI) International Association of Identification.)

Course Objectives:

Topics will include:
  • The scientific method
  • Biohazards and blood
  • Behavior of liquid blood
  • Suggested terminology
  • Surfaces, stains and angles
  • Stringing the scene and tangent method forensic software
  • Velocity observations documentation
  • Report writing
  • Correlation of pattern analysis with other findings
  • Presentations in court and ethics

Methodologies:

The delivery utilizes practical exercises, lecture, demonstration and discussion.

Course Requirements:

Attendance and active participation is required at all class and practical sessions. A minimum score of seventy (70) is required to pass the final written exam in addition to successful completion of all required practical exercises.

Special Concerns:

This program is a vendor course being hosted by the NC Justice Academy. The student is required to register with both the NC Justice Academy along with Mobile Crime Scene Academy LLC,Steve McGibbon. The student, during this course, will be exposed to animal blood. The student will be provided with all necessary safety equipment throughout the course.
