Who Should Attend:

Law enforcement field training officers assigned to patrol that have attended a 32-40 hour basic field training officer program.

Course Goals:

To provide additional training to officers that have been performing the function of field training new officers assigned to patrol.

Course Objectives:

The student will be able to:

1.  Identify and utilize tactics to enhance officer safety.

2.  Utilize coaching and feedback in field training.

3.  Develop and apply remedial training strategies for trainees that are not responding to training.

4.  Develop and safely implement scenario-based training to improve trainee performance.

5.  Recognize components of problem-based learning and how they affect field training.

Methodologies:

This course employs lecture, discussion and practical exercises.

Course Requirements:

Student must provide documentation of attendance of a 32-40 hour basic Field Training Officer course. Attendance is required for all class sessions. In order to satisfactorily complete this course, the student must participate in all class discussions and activities and must obtain a minimum score of 75% on a written test to be given at the conclusion of the course. Students must bring their duty gear, Field Training Officer Procedures Manual and blank copies of their Daily Observation Reports (DORs).
